The Pelléas Ensemble

The Pelléas Ensemble is a young and unusual trio of viola, flute and harp players that is rapidly gaining a strong reputation in chamber music. Formed in 2011, at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in 2015 the ensemble won First Prize at the British Harp Chamber Music Competition and in 2016 they won both the Grand Prize and the Audience Prize in the St Martin-in-the-Fields Chamber Music Competition. This year they have won the Tillett Trust Young Artists’ Programme and were finalists in the Royal Overseas League Chamber Music Competition.

In November, the Pelléas Ensemble made their debut at the Wigmore Hall and have recently appeared live on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’. They were selected to represent the Guildhall at the City of London Festival, and have given numerous recitals at other London venues including St John’s Smith Square. The ensemble have established a reputation for performing their recitals from memory, which they believe creates an immediate and more intimate connection with their audiences. These very talented young musicians are dedicated to performing new music and are due to premier four new works this year, with two further commissions planned for next year.

For the Ashbourne Festival concert the ensemble is including a new piece commissioned from local composer Joe Steele, entitled, from different countries. London based Joe is a former student of Queen Elizabeth’s GS and a graduate in composing from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is naturally, very excited that his work is being performed in his home town.

Come and enjoy this exceptional and original programme of chamber music and support the work of a home grown internationally recognised composer.
