Mischief Makers Themed Summer Reading Challenge! @ Ashbourne Library
Aug 15 all-day

The summer reading challenge starts on Saturday 14th July and finishes on Saturday 8th September. This year’s theme is Mischief Makers.

Children are challenged to read 6 library books over the holiday period. Those who succeed receive a medal and a certificate.

History of Coopers of Ashbourne Exhibition @ Ashbourne Library

During August Ashbourne Library is featuring an exhibition that covers the history of Coopers of Ashbourne who used to be based on what is now the Sainsbury’s site.

For many years Ashbourne was a centre of the corset manufacturing industry, and Coopers was one of the towns largest employers. Many inhabitants of the town today will have memories of parents and grandparents who were employed by Coopers.

 

The exhibition runs until Tuesday 11th of September and features original materials which have kindly been loaned by Derbyshire County Council’s Records Office, plus articles and photos from historic issues of the Ashbourne News Telegraph. Ashbourne Library holds every edition of the paper on microfilm.

Everybody is welcome even if you’ve never done it before. Come and learn in a fun, easy going and relaxed class, dancing to all kinds of music from soul to rock&roll, country to pop and Irish to 80’s.
